From LAX to Helsinki: Highlights from Finnair A350 Business Class Experience
Pre-Flight: OneWorld Lounge at LAX Airport
2. In-Flight: Take Off and Meal Service
Whether you’re looking for a fizzy aperitif or a rare vintage, Finnair’s business class menu will be a welcomed delight. There are a ton of options to choose from, one can opt for a signature Finnish vodka gin and tonic or if you fancy, a glass of Joseph Perrier finest champagnes. I actually enjoyed the takeoff blueberry juice that they seemingly serve on tap — super effervescent and a refreshing, palette cleanser at that.
Honestly, I loved everything abut Finnair's generous meal service. It starts roughly an hour or two into the flight and once it does, it doesn’t quite end. Snacks, drinks and cocktails are made available throughout the flight, either through a flight attendant or walking into the galley where they have pre-made snacks “on-the-go.” I absolutely fell in love with the silverware and Marimekko cups that they serve the tea and coffee in. So stunning and super on brand for Finnair, which is a visual embodiment of Finnish culture.
3. Post-Flight: Finding your Bearings in Helsinki
Helsinki is no doubt the most populous city in Finland — it is the metropolitan home to a variety of hotels, museums, galleries, designer boutiques and award-winning, Michelin star restaurants. There’s plenty to do the moment you land, but I recommend resting up at your accommodations to get acclimated to the long, summer hours that keep the sun out from day to night.
If you’re looking for Helsinki’s finest when it comes to modern and contemporary design + fashion, look no further than the city’s design district. There you’ll find some of Finland’s foremost designers on home decor, fashion and the like — from Marimekko to Minna Parikka.
4. Before You Leave: Consider the Archipelagos
One of the best things you could do outside of Helsinki is to travel to one of the 330+ archipelagos that surround the city. They are easily accessible by ferries that make multiple stops at different islands. We ended up in Lonna, which is the most picturesque city getaway you could imagine. It is pure beauty. Every corner your eyes land on will take your breath away.
This post hardly scratches the surface of what Helsinki has to offer, but it is certainly a start. I am counting down the days until I head back to this part of the Nordic. Super grateful I got to go for the very first time thanks to the folks over at Finnair and OurFinland! What do you guys think? Is Helsinki on your next itinerary?
