Before returning to LA from NYFW, we had one of our very last meals from Scarpetta's first location in NYC. I found myself anxiously yearning for a repeat experience. My prayers were finally answered when Scarpetta LA invited me, along with two other bloggers (Tasha Oakley and Daniella Grace!), to an intimate dinner at Chef Freddy Varga's two-million dollar kitchen at their Montage Hotel in Beverly Hills. I had to bring Martin with me, upon finding out that I could bring a plus one!

We were all served a multi-course, chef's tasting menu individually, despite my initial presumption that we'll be all sharing small bites from a sample platter (we are fashion bloggers after all -- it's all about portion control!). The yellowtail and tuna hamachi appetizer set the tone for the rest of the meal: fresh, bright and savory. When Chef Vargas shaved generous amounts of black truffle over my creamy polenta, I knew I was in culinary heaven. Other highlights of the night included Scott Conant's signature spaghetti in a creamy tomato basil sauce, braised lamb agnolotti and coconut panna cotta in a guava "soup," which was surprisingly sugar free! Each course wowed us beyond belief.

Having been a Yelp Elite for the past three years, I've been had my share of the good, bad and in-betweens of the LA dining scene. Scarpetta LA takes the crown for hospitality and consistently scrumptious, new-age Italian fare. While it faces stiff competition from Bestia, Osteria Mozza and Angelini Osteria, I can't recommend it enough.
