THE NEW BASICS

NEWTHINGS neoprene shirt, Mercer and James hat, ASOS shirt, H&M x Isabel Marant trousers (similar here), Alexander Wang oxfords (similar here), Richer Poorer socks, Armani Exchange necklace

When I think of the new basics for menswear, neoprene comes to mind for many reasons: 1) Bill Cunningham is already on to it in his most recent New York Time's feature, "Futurism in Men's Wear," and 2) It's such an effortless, structural piece to layer with.

Introducing this neoprene short-sleeve, reversible tee from NEWTHINGS, an art collective label based in NYC.

While it's designed to look like a t-shirt, the clever use of neoprene creates insulation and adds enough bulk for layering purposes as I did simply with a button-down shirt underneath. The mesh lining also comfortably ventilates as you increase movement throughout the day. What else is there to love? It's completely reversible, providing even more opportunities to style this neoprene staple and make it your own.

My love for neoprene everything has only ignited, and I will continue fanning the flames of its growing popularity within menswear. As Anna Wintour once said, "fashion is about moving forward." The time to embrace the future is now.
